Master the slippery rooms
Momentum changes every decision
Ice Temple changes the rhythm of Fireboy and Watergirl. Frozen floors turn ordinary walks into slides, so planning where to stop becomes as important as deciding where to go. A route that looks short can be difficult if it ends with too much speed.
The goal remains cooperative: both characters must reach their own exit. What changes is the margin for error. Safe platforms, landing room, and the order of each character’s movement matter more than in a standard temple.
Core mechanics: manage ice, hazards, and momentum
Icy surfaces carry a hero farther than expected, which affects jumps, switches, and narrow platforms. Use a rough surface, wall, or platform edge as a reset point whenever the next move needs precision.
Elemental hazards still define who may travel where: Fireboy can handle lava, Watergirl can handle water, and green liquid is unsafe for either. The extra challenge is reaching the correct element without sliding past the platform that leads to it.
- Leave extra room before a gap or a switch.
- Use short test movements to learn a new ice lane.
- Do not park the waiting hero where a slide can knock them into danger.
New-player strategy: make a stopping plan first
Before sending either hero down a long icy stretch, decide where they can regain control. A small detour to a stable ledge is often safer than trying to brake at the final jump.
In two-player sessions, let the player with the clearer route move first while the other waits in a protected area. In solo play, avoid alternating rapidly; complete one controlled movement and verify the landing before switching characters.
Controls and co-op setup
Use the arrow keys for Fireboy and W, A, S, D for Watergirl. Ice makes key presses feel more consequential, so release movement early near edges and allow space for the slide to finish.
Ice changes every jump. Let one character test a slippery route before committing both heroes, and use the edges of platforms to control your speed.

Common questions
Why do my jumps overshoot in Ice Temple?
The frozen ground preserves momentum. Start the jump from a shorter run-up or use a platform edge to reduce speed before leaving the ice.
Is it better to move both heroes together?
Only when the landing areas are safe for both. On unfamiliar ice, moving one hero first gives you information without risking the entire attempt.
