Teleporters make every route a puzzle

Crystal Temple turns the map itself into the puzzle. Teleporters connect distant parts of a level, so a portal can save time, separate the duo, or send a movable object to exactly the place it is needed.

Success comes from understanding the network rather than treating every portal as an automatic shortcut. The right entrance is often determined by what the other hero has prepared on the far side.

Core mechanics: map the portals before entering

Colour-linked teleporters move characters—and in some rooms, useful objects—between connected locations. Because exits, buttons, and hazards can sit on opposite ends of the map, you must account for where each hero will emerge, not only where they enter.

Switches and boxes frequently prepare the arrival area. Elemental safety rules still matter after teleporting: Fireboy needs lava-safe routes, Watergirl needs water-safe routes, and neither can land in green liquid.

  • Identify the destination of each portal before using it.
  • Set up buttons and movable boxes before sending a hero across the map.
  • Confirm that both heroes have a return route or a route to their exits.

New-player strategy: label the room in your head

Give each portal a mental label—such as “upper switch” or “water side”—instead of remembering it only by colour. This reduces trial-and-error when several teleporters are visible at once.

Make one portal trip at a time. After a hero arrives, inspect what changed in the new area and whether a switch should be activated before you bring the second hero through.

Controls and co-op setup

Fireboy moves with the arrow keys and Watergirl with W, A, S, D. When playing together, say which portal you are taking before stepping in; when playing solo, finish the arrival-side task before swapping control sets.

Treat every teleporter as a paired route. Check where both heroes will appear before entering, then use buttons and boxes to prepare the landing side.

Common questions

Why did the portal make the puzzle harder?

A teleporter changes the order of the room. The destination may need a switch, box, or safe platform prepared before either hero can use it well.

Can both heroes use the same portal?

They can often travel through the same portal, but do not assume they should. Check that the arrival area can safely hold both characters and still leaves a route to each exit.
