Meet new magical helpers

Fresh puzzles, familiar teamwork

Fairy Tales gives the classic Fireboy and Watergirl partnership a more playful set of rooms. The objective remains to guide each hero to a matching exit, but the environment can change as switches, light devices, and magical-looking helpers reveal new ways forward.

It rewards observation more than speed. When a route seems incomplete, the missing piece is often not a harder jump but an object that needs to be activated, repositioned, or followed through a darker part of the level.

Core mechanics: use the room changes to create a route

Fairy Tales mixes levers, pressure plates, gates, reflective light tools, and low-visibility areas with the series’ elemental obstacles. These devices can alter access to a platform or door, so the room may look different after each successful action.

Fireboy is safe in lava and Watergirl is safe in water; both must avoid green hazards. The helper systems do not replace this rule—they create the timing and pathways needed for each hero to use their safe terrain.

  • Notice which object changed after a switch or a beam was activated.
  • Use visible light sources and glowing cues to orient yourself in dark areas.
  • Keep the exit symbols in mind while testing a magical device.

New-player strategy: inspect before you improvise

If a room feels impossible, pause at the first safe platform and look for objects that are not part of the terrain: a lever, a receiver, a movable piece, or a path that was hidden by darkness. These are usually the intended next step.

In co-op, assign one player to watch the room state while the other moves. In solo play, make deliberate single changes and check the result; several quick actions can make it hard to see which device actually opened the route.

Controls and co-op setup

Use the arrow keys for Fireboy and W, A, S, D for Watergirl. Two people can share the keyboard, while solo players should leave one hero on solid ground before changing the room with the other.

Watch how magical objects change the level before moving both characters. If a route looks impossible, look for a switch or helper that changes the room.

Common questions

What should I do in a dark Fairy Tales level?

Move carefully from a safe platform and use the available light cues to understand nearby terrain. Look for a switch, light receiver, or object that changes what you can see.

Are the magical helpers a separate character to control?

The puzzle focus remains on Fireboy and Watergirl. Treat helper-like objects as parts of the room that can reveal or enable a route for the two main heroes.
